While preparing for her solo exhibition, “In Bloom”, Shakia focused her creative attention on contemporary interiors. This abstract interpretation of a floral still is an example of Shakia’s creative ability to infuse emotion and capture movement while exaggerating form.
She began with a dark background and then took to scraping it away before applying thin washes to create texture and depth. Shakia viewed the referenced subject as a visual suggestion and sought to represent what she felt through energetic and gestural brushstrokes.
“Doves In The Wind” marked the beginning of Shakia’s pursuit to emphasize the beauty in imperfections.
