There’s Nothing Left to Prove is an expressive contemporary portrait celebrating authenticity, natural beauty, and the freedom that comes with no longer needing to conform.

The painting depicts a Black woman with long, flowing natural curls emerging from layers of warm brown, black, coral, turquoise, pink, and orange. Her face is intentionally left undefined, allowing the figure to become more than a single portrait. She can represent the viewer, a daughter, a mother, a friend—or anyone who has reached the point of embracing who they are without explanation or apology.

The history beneath the painting is an important part of its story. There’s Nothing Left to Prove originally began as a wedding study. Rather than completely erasing the earlier composition, traces of the bride, her dress, and the wedding setting remain visible beneath and around the finished portrait.

Those remnants reflect a recurring element of my painting process: allowing an idea to evolve without completely erasing where it began. Layers of the past remain part of the finished work, much like the experiences that shape who we become.

The painting also connects to my own journey with natural hair and self-acceptance. For years, I chemically straightened my curls while navigating beauty standards that often treated natural texture as something that needed to be changed. After watching the documentary Good Hair, I began questioning those ideas and eventually embraced my natural hair.

The title captures what came from that journey:

This piece celebrates the moment when seeking approval gives way to simply being yourself.

Unlike many online art prints that are outsourced to large print facilities, every canvas print is personally produced, inspected, and packaged by me in my Shelbyville, Kentucky studio.

I print each reproduction from my original painting using professional archival giclée printing methods, carefully matching the color and painterly details of the original artwork before it leaves my studio.

From printing and quality control to packaging and shipping, every order is handled with the same care and attention that goes into creating the original painting.

Shipping & Packaging

Your canvas print arrives unframed unless a framing option is selected during checkout.

Each print includes a small white border, allowing it to be trimmed, stretched, framed, or matted according to your preferred presentation.

Depending on the size ordered, your artwork will be shipped flat in protective packaging or carefully rolled in a sturdy mailing tube to help ensure safe delivery.

Every order is professionally printed, inspected, and packaged by me in my Shelbyville, Kentucky studio.
