The woman that inspired this piece prefers to be referenced by her initials KH.
The title, "Runnin Free," echoes the theme of liberation and self-discovery, inspired by the KH's narrative. The painting is a testament to her journey, marked by both hardships and moments of profound joy. Lisianthus, with their gentle petals and vibrant colors, mirror her resilience and appreciation for life's beauty.
Inspired by the book, "What happened to you?" by Oprah Winfrey & Bruce D. Perry, I set out to redefine how each of us look at trauma and to take a more empathetic approach to the ways in which we view one another. KH's realization on her honeymoon that her husband didn't want to be with her had a profound impact on her life.
It was important to me to symbolically incorporate some of KH's soothing rituals and finding joy in nature, adding layers of depth to the artwork.
"Runnin Free" seeks to tell a story of growth, self-love, and the pursuit of joy. The lisianthus, painted with a sense of freedom and movement, encapsulate the spirit of the woman who has overcome adversity and found solace in the simple yet profound beauty of nature among her favorite flowers.
Thank you KH for sharing your story and inspiring this piece.
