Painting Loose Florals
Capture the beauty & whimsy of nature with oil paints. Today I want to share the techniques and processes I use to create captivating floral and landscape paintings. In 2015 I earned by Bachelor's Degree from Western Kentucky University (Go Hilltoppers!) in P-12 Exceptional Education (LBD & MSD). I'm a highly qualified special education teacher and have a unique lense in which to present instruction. Due to lack of resources and time instead of attending paint classes, instead I've invested hundreds if not thousands of hours in front of the canvas. My unique perspective as a self-taught artist paired with my strengths as an educator truly make for a unique, pleasurable, encouraging, and more importantly obtainable art experience.
My work is on display nationwide in over 33 cities & 18 states. My solo exhibition debuted March 2022 in Downtown Louisville, KY. I started my business while working full time as a special education teacher, commuting an hour each way, and taking care of two toddlers. My path to creativity is not conventional by any means. My hope is that as we get to know each other you will be even more convinced that painting is a skill just like any other. You don't have to be born able to draw to be successful. You just have to show up, be consistent, and most importantly have fun.

Love this class!
Many moons ago, I was a studio art major and switched majors because I didn’t feel good enough- my professors didn’t help. I’m a creative- writer and art lover- and through decades of work and mothering, I’ve stifled my creativity. I saw Shakia at the Big Four Arts Festival and her work immediately inspired me. After my first day working on her class, I felt a burst of energy and confidence. I have a lot to learn still but love the approachability of this lesson. I was initially intimidated and worried I would disappoint myself, but I am so excited now. Thanks Shakia, can’t wait to finish and do more.
